Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information Blind Dating collects, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We've written it in plain language so you can actually understand it — not because we have to, but because we think you deserve to know.
1. Who We Are
Blind Dating is a mobile dating application available on iOS and Android. When this policy says "we," "us," or "our," it means Blind Dating. When it says "you" or "your," it means you — the person using the app.

2. Information We Collect
We collect the information you provide when you create and use your account:
- Profile information: display name, age and birthdate, gender, and who you're seeking
- Location: your city and approximate geographic coordinates (used to show you nearby matches; only your city name is ever shown to other users)
- About you: your bio and your answer to an open profile prompt
- Personality and values: your answers to our Big Five personality quiz and values questions (covering topics like children preference, financial style, growth orientation, and religiosity)
- Profile photo: a photo you upload, which is only revealed to a match after reaching a meaningful connection milestone
- Messages: conversations you have with other users within the app
- Connection history: records of your matches and connection scores
We also collect standard technical information automatically — things like your device type, operating system version, and app usage data. We use this to keep the app running well and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Calculate your compatibility with other users based on personality traits and shared values
- Display your profile (excluding your photo until a connection milestone is reached) to potential matches
- Power in-app messaging and connection tracking
- Send you push notifications about matches and messages (you can manage these in your device settings)
- Process subscriptions and manage your access to premium features
- Improve and develop the app — for example, analyzing which features are most useful
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Respond to your support requests
We do not use your personal information to serve you third-party advertising.
4. Third-Party Services
Running a reliable app requires working with trusted third-party services. Here's who we work with and what they handle:
- Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Your account data, profile information, messages, and connection history are stored securely on Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II compliant.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription state and purchase verification for our in-app passes. RevenueCat receives information about your purchases (processed by Apple or Google) and tells our app whether your subscription is active.
- Expo (Push Notifications): Powers push notifications for new matches and messages. Expo receives a device push token to route notifications to your device. It does not receive your profile content.
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and security practices. We choose partners who take data protection seriously.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- With other users: Your profile (name, bio, personality summary, and eventually your photo) is shown to potential and active matches as intended by the app.
- With service providers: The third parties listed above receive only the data they need to perform their specific function.
- For legal reasons: If we're required to disclose information by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public, we will do so.
- In a business transfer: If Blind Dating is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before that happens.
6. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account — which you can do any time in Settings → Delete account — we permanently remove your profile, messages, personality data, photos, and connection history from our systems. This deletion is processed by a server-side function and is irreversible.
Some aggregated, anonymized data (like overall app usage statistics with no connection to your identity) may be retained for product improvement purposes.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: Contact us at support@blinddating.app to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct your data: Update your profile information directly in the app at any time.
- Delete your data: Use Settings → Delete account in the app. All your personal data will be permanently removed.
- Withdraw consent: You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time.
8. GDPR (For Users in the European Economic Area)
If you're in the EEA, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Our legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent (given when you create an account and agree to these terms) and our legitimate interest in operating a safe and functional service.

9. CCPA (For California Residents)
If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information. You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information.

10. Children's Privacy
Blind Dating is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will delete that account and its associated data promptly.

11. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, and loss. Your data is stored on Supabase's secure, encrypted infrastructure. That said, no system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials private.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
